The Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, Colorado, is a unique cultural institution dedicated exclusively to the life and work of the influential Abstract Expressionist artist Clyfford Still. The museum houses approximately 95% of Still's total output, featuring over 3,000 works including paintings, drawings, and archival materials.
Clyfford Still Museum had been using the 'Qi' CMS to provide software and support for their collection management, the museum approached us to bring their collections online to the public, aiming to be a virtual extension of the physical museum exhibitions and a space for educating the public through connecting and contextualising materials.
My role as Art Director involved leading the digital strategy and production for bringing this new portal to the public. I travelled to Denver to deliver a three day workshop with the museum's staff focusing on content structure and visual design through information architecture, wireframe prototyping and drafting the art direction.
The iterative process ensured content and connections appropriately matched the data available in their system. We crafted mutliple routes for audiences including 'spotlight' articles, visual maps, 'three-dimensional' immersive timelines and the ability for users to 'create their own collections' and share them online.
